Equities Market Opens May With 0.23% ASI Gain.

Trading activities in the Nigerian Equities market closed positive at the end of today, Friday (2/05/2025), as the NGX-ASI increased to 106,042.57 from 105,800.85 recorded at the close of the previous trading day, indicating a YTD return of +3.03%.

The market performance for the week increased by 0.27%, with the NGX All-Share Index (ASI) increasing to 106,042.57 from 105,752.61 recorded at the start of the trading week.

Similarly, the market capitalization increased by ₦152 billion to ₦66.648 trillion from ₦66.496 trillion recorded at the previous trading day’s close. Also, the market turnover increased to ₦15.254 billion from ₦12.755 billion.

The market breadth was negative at 0.72X, as 28 stocks advanced, 39 stocks declined, and 56 stocks remained unchanged. NAHCO topped the gainers’ list with 10.00%, while DAARCOMM declined by 10.00% to lead the losers’ chart.

ACCESSCORP recorded the highest volume while GTCO recorded the highest value for the day.

OUTLOOK

Following the Workers’ Day holiday, the Nigerian equities market extended its bullish momentum from the previous week, recording a 0.27% gain in the All-Share Index. Positive investor sentiment saw the market open and close the week strong, with only two of the four trading sessions posting losses. Investors gained ₦183 billion during the week. This momentum is expected to persist as investment interest shifts toward companies posting strong Q1 financial results.
