Market Review for the week ended September 26th, 2025
The market extended its rally for the third consecutive week, as the NGX All-Share Index (NGX-ASI) advanced by 0.20% week-on-week to close at 142,133.03 points, compared to 141,845.35 points in the previous week. The positive sentiment was driven by investors positioning ahead of interim dividend declarations by listed companies. Consequently, the year-to-date (YtD) return improved to 38.09%. In the same vein, market capitalization rose by 0.24%, settling at ₦89.96 trillion, up from ₦89.74 trillion recorded the prior week.
A total turnover of 7.68 billion shares valued at ₦494.13 billion in 116,645 deals was recorded on the NGX during the week. This reflects a week-on-week increase of 180.44% in volume and 479.96% in value, but an 8.36% decline in the number of deals, compared to the previous week’s 2.74 billion shares worth ₦85.20 billion in 127,284 deals.
Sectoral performance was mixed across the tracked indices: the NGX Consumer Goods Index gained 1.15%, the Banking Index advanced 1.19%, and the Industrial Goods Index inched up 1.33%. Conversely, the Oil and Gas Index and the Insurance Index declined by 1.62% and 0.91%, respectively.
CONHALLPLC led the trading chart by volume, while ZENITHBANK dominated by value, posting a week-on-week (WoW) decline of 1.98% and a 9.14% gain, respectively.
The market’s positive momentum was supported by strong performances in select equities. THOMASWY (+22.68%), NSLTECH (+21.33%), MECURE (+20.83%), CHELLARAM (+11.30%), and ROYALEX (+10.29%) topped the gainers’ list. Conversely, WEMABANK emerged as the week’s biggest loser, shedding 12.41% WoW.
