Market Review for the week ended October 3rd, 2025
Despite a shortened trading week, as the Federal Government declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Independence Day, the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) All-Share Index (ASI) advanced by 1.02% week-on-week, closing at 143,584.04 points compared to 142,133.03 points in the previous week. Consequently, the year-to-date (YtD) return improved to 39.50%. In the same vein, market capitalization increased by 1.31%, settling at ₦91.135 trillion, up from ₦89.96 trillion recorded in the prior week.
A total turnover of 8.40 billion shares valued at ₦115.50 billion in 115,801 deals was recorded on the NGX during the week. This represents a 9.41% week-on-week increase in volume, but a 76.63% decline in value and a 0.72% drop in the number of deals, compared to the previous week’s 7.68 billion shares worth ₦494.13 billion across 116,645 deals.
Sectoral performance across the tracked indices was broadly positive. The NGX Banking Index gained 1.17%, the Consumer Goods Index advanced 0.13%, the Oil & Gas Index rose 5.68%, and the Industrial Goods Index increased 1.33%. However, the Insurance Index was the lone laggard, declining by 2.02% week-on-week.
FIDELITYBK led the trading chart both by volume and value, recording a week-on-week (WoW) gain of 11.11%. The market’s positive momentum was further driven by strong performances across select equities, with ETERNA (+32.80%), ENAMELWA (+20.94%), PZ (+20.87%), LIVINGTRUST (+18.25%), and EUNISELL (+17.56%) topping the gainers’ list. On the flip side, JBERGER emerged as the week’s worst performer, declining by 17.79% WoW.
