Market Review for the week ended 23rd January, 2026
The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) All-Share Index (ASI) opened the week on a bearish note, falling by (0.37%) week-on-week to close at 165,512.2 points, down from 166,129.50 points in the prior week. This performance ensured a year-to-date (YTD) return of 6.36%.
Sectoral performance was broadly negative across tracked indices. The Consumer Goods Index led the laggards, losing 2.02%, followed by the NGX Banking Index (1.32%), Insurance Index (0.09%) and Industrial Goods Index (0.08%) while Oil & Gas Index returned a positive weekly performance (+1.36%).
Fifty-Seven (57) equities appreciated during the week, compared with Eighty (80) gainers recorded in the previous week. DEAPCAP (60.09%), SCOA (+59.73), NCR (+46.36%), DAARCOMM (+41.67%), and RTBRISCOE (+40.71%) topped the gainers’ chart. Conversely, forty (40) equities depreciated, more than the seventeen (17) decliners recorded in the prior week. ETERNA emerged as the worst-performing stock, shedding 11.92% week-on-week (WoW).
